Stanley Kubrick's harrowing Vietnam War film. This film shows the truth about the dehumanising training that the young men of America went through when they became US Marines to fight the VC.

The story follows one Private Joker (played by Matthew Modine) through his training at the "Island" and at his base in Vietnam. He makes friends in training, including Private Cowboy and Private Pile. Pile, because of his weight problem can't do anything right in the eyes of Gunnery Srgt Hartmen, who makes the entire platoon suffer everytime Pile messes up. Dispite Jokers help, Pile continues to make mistakes and is punished by the platoon. This drives Pile insane, and after graduation he shoots Srgt Hartmen and then commits suicide in the head (toilet)

Joker graduates as a Combat Corrisponant, and with his new friend and cameraman, Private Rapter-man, he heads north to get "in the shit." Here he meets up with his old friend Cowboy and his new platoon, which includes the semi-psycotic Animal Mother. Joker and Rapter-man stay with the platoon as they "liberate" the City of Whey. They run into trouble as a snipper begins to take out members of the platoon, eventually killing Cowboy. This leaves Mother in charge, who leads a select few, including Rapter-man and Joker into a building after the snipper.

Joker and Animal Mother discuss Peanut and where they should be inserted

Joker finds the snipper, a girl VC, but his magazine is empty and the snipper begins to shoot at Joker, who cowers behind a pillar. Rapter-man comes to Jokers resue and wounds the snipper. However she doesn't die straight away and Animal suggests leaving her for the "mother lovin' rats" to suffer but Joker disagress and puts her out of her misery.

The film ends with an Epilogue from Joker and an image of the Platoon walking throught the streets of Whey singing "Mickey Mouse" (lyrics below)
